Palace of Holyroodhouse & Abbey: Situated at the end of the Royal Mile, the Palace of Holyroodhouse serves as the official residence of the monarch in Scotland. The palace has deep historical connections, particularly with Mary, Queen of Scots, who resided here during some of the most dramatic moments of her reign. Visitors can tour the State Apartments, which are still used for royal ceremonies, as well as the Thistle Chapel and Mary’s Bedchamber. The adjoining Holyrood Abbey was founded in 1128 by King David I and was once one of Scotland’s most important religious sites. Although now in ruins, it offers visitors a chance to step back in time while enjoying the tranquil gardens.
